“As technologies evolve and priorities shift, media nonprofits struggle to stay afloat,” the Village Voice reports. "If one of the biggest threats to our democracy is the consolidation of the media, where do you allocate the limited money you have to make the greatest impact?" asks Alyce Myatt, formerly the MacArthur Foundation's program officer for media. The answer is "media policy."
While a few media organizations continue to thrive, including Apalshop and the Bay Area Video Coalition, both of which have strong youth programs, others experiment with new ways to bring in dollars.
