THE JOURNAL LATINO STUDIES IS SEEKING A GRADUATE STUDENT TO BECOME THE JOURNAL’S MANAGING EDITOR

The Journal, Latino Studies, a national peer-reviewed journal, is moving to CUNY this fall and will be based at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We are hiring a graduate student (50% appointment) to become the Journal’s Managing Editor. This is an excellent opportunity for any graduate student interested in learning about manuscript submissions and publication and more generally about the field of Latino/a Studies. It is also an excellent opportunity for you to participate in and contribute to shaping the field of Latino Studies through its most respected and nationally-known Journal.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
** Working closely with the editor and with authors on all aspects of manuscript submission, evaluation and publication
**Tracking the arrival and processing of all manuscripts
**Ensuring that the office equipment and supplies are maintained
**Participating in all the meetings and discussions on the manuscripts, with the Journal’s Associate Editors
**Occasional travel with the Editor to national conferences
**Participation in the planning and execution of national conferences focusing on significant issues in the national Latino/a community (e.g. health; education; youth; etc.)
** Helping the Editor organize and participate in the Journal’s International Board meetings
**Arranging flights and accommodations for the Editor, the Associate Editor and when necessary, for conference participants
**Keeping records of the journal accounts
** Helping to solicit submissions, and to promote the Journal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
**Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
**Working knowledge of Word and Excel required
**Preference will be given to candidates who have some knowledge of the field of Latino Studies
**A willingness to travel occasionally
**A willingness to learn about the field and about the publishing of manuscripts
**Knowledge of Spanish not required but a definite plus
