Young Spoken Word Artist Documentary

“Myth of the Motherland” is a new documentary film to be shot in early 2008 that profiles ten young spoken word artists on a creative writing journey to 12 African nations to meet with African scholars, writers, poets and others to explore myths and biases about Africa and Africans.
To raise funds for this trip, on July 10th at the KNITTING FACTORY in NYC a benefit event, hosted in partnership with EMANCIPATE of the Culture Project, will be headlined by QUEEN GODIS, showcasing some of NYC’s best youth spoken word poets, aged 18-23 who will perform their own original new work set to African imagery from Lisa Russell’s films.
