Shoot Nations is a free global youth photography competition to get young people to document what matters to them, what’s right and what’s wrong in their world and how to make a difference.
Take a look at the decisions that affect your life and show us what you think about “Power and Participation.”
There are fabulous Prizes to be won and the results will be presented to the United Nations, the highest level of global government. Your photos and drawings could be exhibited in selected major cities around the world to celebrate International Youth Day on Sunday 12th August 2007.
Shoot Nations is open to all young people and prizes are awarded for photographs that capture something special and that stands out from the rest.

The Forum has released a new paper entitled, Core Principles for Engaging Young People in Community Change.
The principles described in this paper emerged from the commingling of research and practice that occurred when the Forum for Youth Investment merged with Community IMPACT! USA. They are important but simple principles for putting the idea of youth engagement into practice. They can be implemented in a wide range of organizations, including schools, youth organizations or community centers that want to strengthen their commitment to youth leadership, or community-change focused organizations or coalitions that want to strengthen their commitment to youth involvement.

On July 25, 2007 Deviwo Projects will hold a multi-media exhibition of Ghanaian children’s photography and writing from the Zongo Junction Youth Photo Program.
Staged at the Bogardus Mansion in Tribeca (75 Murray Street, NY NY), the event will celebrate the release of “I Am The Only One You Saw,” a collection of photos and essays by Edward Chao, twelve-year-old student in Ghana, West Africa. All proceeds and from print and book sales will go to the Deviwo Projects Scholarship Fund, which provides support for children in Madina Accra to further their education.
The Zongo Junction Youth Photo Program took place over a yearlong period at the Gina Internatinoal School in Madina Accra, Ghana. Local and foreign photographers led a series of after-school workshops in which students learned the basics of point-and-shoot photography and went out on assignments to document their neighborhoods. The program culminated with the students holding an exhibition of their work that took place at the University of Ghana in January 2006.
Co-founded by Sam Bathrick and Ghanaian photographer Godwin Azameti, Deviwo Projects is a collective of visual artists, media makers, writers and teachers who seek to enable youth in Ghana with the skills to document, preserve, and re-invent their own culture. The collective was formed in response to the growing sentiment that Africa, a continent of diverse people and culture, has become narrowly definited–both in the West and by many within Africa itself–through the words and lenses of foreign visitors.

Global Kids, Inc. is seeking dynamic, hard-working, and creative individuals who are experienced in youth development, global education, and social action. Several positions are available for new and existing Global Kids school-based Attendance Improvement/Drop-Out Prevention Programs in New York City middle and high schools and other programs and special projects. Individuals must be able to begin work September 4, 2007.
Responsibilities include:
* Coordinate, develop and co-facilitate interactive, experiential workshops and activities for GK’s weekly school-based academic programs and afterschool leadership groups.
* Co-lead and develop all aspects of GK’s theme-based social action projects on issues ranging from human rights to environment to health.
* Conduct outreach to students and their families, including nightly phone calls, written correspondence, and in some cases, home visits to increase attendance.
* Provide guidance, counseling and referrals for social services to youth.
* Work with other staff and students to implement the annual Global Kids Youth Conference and other special projects with the United Nations, Council on Foreign Relations, etc.
* Conduct special trainings for youth and educators.
* Collaborate with GK staff and youth to generate new program ideas and content focusing on global/local issues.
* Collect and review attendance, evaluation and other data related to projects.
* Maintain necessary documentation, program data entry and records and provide periodic progress reports as necessary.
* For Senior Trainers – coach less experienced program staff in program development, facilitation, and workshop design and serve as site manager/point person for school-based programs.
Qualifications:
* College degree a must for Trainer position.
* Master’s degree, plus several years of professional experience required for Senior Trainer. We are especially seeking candidates with degrees in social work, education, and international relations.
* Knowledge of global issues and social activism and demonstrated experience working on these issues.
* Experience using interactive experiential learning strategies, counseling and conflict resolution skills, and youth development/leadership strategies in culturally diverse settings.
Knowledge of AIDP programs and public school system is desirable.
* Excellent facilitation, consensus-building and interpersonal skills.
* Initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to juggle multiple tasks independently.
* Strong communication, writing, organizational, and computer skills. New media skills a plus.
* International experience and foreign language background a plus.

New York, NY – The New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotion Awards honored Youth Radio with several awards, including two unexpected prizes, at its gala on Thursday June 28, 2007 at Tribeca Rooftoop in New York, NY.
Youth Radio’s Race in Your Face entry won the festival’s highest honor – the Grand Award for Best Information Program in addition to a gold medal in the Social Issues and Current Events category. Race in Your Face also won the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) Bronze Medal, which is awarded by the UNDPI and the New York Festival to “work that best exemplifies the ideals and goals of the United Nations.”
Youth Radio was one of only four Grand Award winners and one of only three UN award winners from thousands of entries worldwide. The award-winning stories explore race and racism in America. Pendarvis Harshaw’s “N-Bomb” examines the set of ideals and attitudes regarding the controversial N-word. Clare Robbins’ “Becoming Aware” explores how groups of young white people are separating themselves to talk about race. King Anyi Howell’s “The DNA of the Black Experience” details Howell’s personal experience being wrongly targeted by police.
Youth Radio’s Reflections on Return series, which features the perspectives of U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq, won a finalist certificate. Richard Denny’s “Family Ties in Iraq,” is a perspective from a North Carolina soldier dealing with his experiences in Iraq and comparing them with those of his brother and father. Sophie Simon-Ortiz’s “Benefits for Military Marriage” looks at the rising phenomenon of soldiers and citizens making arrangements to get married for perks and convenience.
About The Competition
The New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotion Awards recognizes the world’s best work in radio programming and promotion. Entries are judged by panels of radio experts from stations and companies throughout the world for their production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity and use of the medium.

Delegates from many countries will discuss “Youth and Media” in German-Arab Media Dialogue Conference.
AMMAN – Jordan is the venue for the German-Arab Media Dialogue Conference 2007 to be held from 26 – 27 June 2007 in Amman. This event is jointly organised by the German Foreign Office and the German Institute for Cultural Relations, in cooperation with the German Embassy in Amman, representing the German Presidency of the European Union in Jordan.
This year’s workshop will focus on “Youth and Media”. Delegates from Germany, Jordan and several Arab countries will discuss the future of the professional (or “traditional”) media and journalism against the background of the growing influence of the internet and web log-scene among the young generation in the Arab world.

The Hungarian Youth Press DUE invites young European journalists to their “Summer Media Camp” at Lake Balaton from July 9th until July 15th 2007. At this annual “Summer Media Camp” more then 80 hungarian young journalists produce radio shows, movies and other media with professional journalists from famous hungarian media stations. This year, ten European young journalists between 18 and 25 years are invited to join this camp and participate in international workshops.
The participants are required to speak English and have basic skills in journalism/media-making or strong motivation and enthusiasm for journalistic skills. 270 young journalists from across the European Union will meet in the European Parliament in Brussels this week to take part in the first European Youth Media Days event. The participants will be able to discuss issues of European interest with MEPs and representatives of the Commission and the Council.
The event, co-organised by the European Parliament and the European Youth Press network, will be opened by EP President Hans-Gert Pöttering on Wednesday June 27th and continue to Friday, where participants will debate European media and political issues, in 21 workshops. They will also produce radio and TV shows, newspapers, magazines and websites.
The participants (average age 23) were selected from among more than 2,000 applicants, and come from all EU countries.
The event can be watched live on www.youthmediadays.eu and a feature article will be available in 22 languages on www.europarl.europa.eu.
